The Center for Independence (CFI) is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit serving people with disabilities from ages 14 and up. We serve as a resource for individuals with disabilities to fully access and participate in the community through outreach, advocacy, and independent living skills development. We work together with participants to achieve independent living goals such as self-advocacy, self-sufficiency, and self-determination. CFI is a non-residential community-based organization operated by people with disabilities, serving people with disabilities.

About the Position:

The Executive Director at CFI is responsible for the development and general management of the Non-Profit organization. This full-time position reports to the Board of Directors, oversees the day-to-day operation of the organization, is responsible for carrying out duties that will allow the office to be run in an efficient and effective manner as outlined, and ensures CFI services are delivered in accordance with the Independent Living Philosophy.

Management

  • Assure that all staff are trained in the Independent Living Philosophy
  • Coordinate the hiring and training of new staff
  • Oversee all day-to-day operations, Direct Services, and other activities of the agency
  • Oversight of CFI’s IT equipment and technical processes
  • Ensure that all processes are completed in relation to consumer satisfaction surveys so that results can be reported to Board of Directors
  • Assist staff who may be facing challenges or need assistance with troubleshooting

Leadership

  • Work effectively with board members/committees/staff and the community at large
  • Provide strong leadership while instilling leadership skills in others
  • Oversight of strategic plan
  • Oversight/participation in sound policy development and enforcement
  • Represent CFI at local and state meetings/events
  • Oversight of the organization’s community services, events, and media releases, and ensure that all the above listed are accessible to those with and without disabilities
  • Advocate the mission and vision of the organization as broadly as possible
  • Serve on applicable boards and coalitions

Development/Administrative

  • Development, submission, and monitoring of grants
  • Develop, locate, and/or expand revenue streams that align with CFI’s mission and vision
  • Approve payroll and payables, oversee monthly invoicing, and other financial matters
  • Provide required fiscal and program reports on center activities to the Board of Directors
  • Oversee CFI’s fiscal operations including engaging an independent auditor for the annual GAAP audit, financial reports, annual budget preparation and oversight
  • Preparation of the annual report and delivery to the state/SILCK
  • Maintain expansion of CFI’s capacity
  • Review monthly grant/contract invoices, monthly/quarterly programmatic reports, and financial statements
  • Other duties as assigned

Desired Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in the Independent Living field, in positions of increasing responsibility.
  • Must have experience providing supervision, preparing budget reports, public speaking, and organizing community activities
  • Dependable, organized, and self-motivated
  • Possess the ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Knowledge of standard formats for letters, memos, and reports
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of work plus experience in a related field
  • Believe in and promote the Independent Living Philosophy
