Reports to the Executive Director
General Responsibilities: The Independent Living Coordinator / Full-Time provides assistance to consumers through individual/group skills training, advocacy, information and referral, and service coordination for 40 hours a week in the Lancaster area.
Principal Duties
Within the guidelines of the DEC’s policies and procedures, the Independent Living Coordinator will:
- Assists in development of partnerships with agencies, organizations, and businesses that support the Hispanic community
- Provides training to educate community partners about CIL services and collects results/feedback
- Assists in translation of documents into Spanish
- Assists in distribution of information
- Conduct independent living assessments with consumers.
- Assist consumers in the development and implementation of independent living goals.
- Promote the Independent Living philosophy.
- Provide peer and/or supportive services to consumers and/or families.
- Provide advocacy services, as appropriate.
- Provide information and referral services to consumers and the public.
- Provide technical assistance to agencies and community groups.
- Maintain familiarity with services available to DEC consumers including eligibility requirements and appeal procedures.
- Assist with marketing of DEC services through the development and maintenance of inter-agency contracts and relationships.
- Attend and participate in trainings, conferences, workshops, and seminars.
- Prepare necessary monthly forms, narratives, and documentation.
- Assist in the development of trainings for consumers and the public.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

- Degree in a field of study relevant to the provision of Independent Living Services preferred, or at least four years of experience in the direct delivery of human services.
- Personal experience in independent living and/or working with persons with disabilities preferred.
- Experience with community organization activities.
- Experience facilitating and working with groups.
- Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Basic computer skills. Proficiency in Microsoft WORD and Excel.
- Excellent communication skills, including interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Able to travel, preferably with own transportation.
Wage and Hour Law Status: Non Exempt/Hourly
