Action Alert: Tell DOL to End Subminimum Wage Now!

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) on Section 14(c) of the Fair Labor Standards Act. This is a HUGE step toward ending the practice of paying people with disabilities subminimum wage!

For far too long, 14(c) certificates have allowed employers to pay workers with disabilities less than the federal minimum wage — sometimes just pennies per hour.

This system is outdated and discriminatory. The Independent Living (IL) movement has long opposed the payment of subminimum wage and champions the rights of people with disabilities to earn fair wages in inclusive workplaces.

The public comment period is open, and we need your help to make sure the disability community is heard loud and clear. Let’s show policymakers that people with disabilities deserve real wages for real work.
