FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Washington, D.C. — The National Council on Independent Living (NCIL), the Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living (APRIL), and the National Association of Statewide Independent Living Councils (NASILC) acknowledge the issuance of federal Notices of Award (NOAs) for Part C funds to Centers for Independent Living (CILs), finalized just before the end of the fiscal year.

CILs deliver essential services that support individuals with disabilities in living independently and participating fully in their communities. These services include employment assistance, independent living skills training, housing support, and advocacy. Timely and predictable funding is critical to maintaining continuity of services and ensuring stability for the communities CILs serve.

Unnecessary uncertainty around funding disrupts operations, strains local resources, and erodes confidence in the systems designed to support the independence of people with disabilities.

NCIL, APRIL, and NASILC remain committed to working with federal partners to promote a more consistent and transparent funding and award process that reflects the importance of the Independent Living Program and the communities it serves in compliance with the Rehabilitation Act and all applicable federal laws and regulations.
