Action Alert: Urge Congress to Protect Medicaid!
The National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) urges the Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and Statewide Independent Living Councils (SILCs) to join us in signing a critical letter to leadership in the House of Representatives, emphasizing the importance of Medicaid for people with disabilities, older adults, family caregivers, and direct care workers. As a disability-led movement, it is vital that we unite to demonstrate the power of our collective voices.
Lawmakers often claim they don’t hear enough from disability-led organizations — let’s change that narrative.
This letter from the Consortium for Citizens with Disabilities and the Aging and Disability Collaborative urges House leadership to:
- Reject any proposals to cut Medicaid, as such actions would be devastating to our communities.
- Exclude Medicaid cuts, work requirements, or changes that limit funding or eligibility from budget reconciliation or other legislation.
- Protect Medicaid funding for direct care programs.
Your organization’s support will send a strong message to Congress about the value of Medicaid and the lives it supports.

Deadline: Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Please note: This action is for organizations only. There will be additional opportunities for individual members to engage in the future.

Lead on,
