Medicaid Update: Act TODAY and TOMORROW to Protect Medicaid and SNAP!

This morning at 1:00 a.m., the House of Representatives Rules Committee began the mark up of the House Reconciliation Bill. This is the final committee to review the bill before it moves to the House Floor for a vote. The policy provisions in the bill estimate that the bill contains $715 Billion in Medicaid cuts. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that over 8 million people across the United States will lose healthcare coverage through Medicaid as a result of this bill. This estimate, combined with number of people expected to lose coverage as a result of provisions that make cuts to the Affordable Care Act, would result in an estimated 13.7 million people throughout the U.S. losing healthcare coverage.

The bill also contains work reporting requirements and additional administrative burdens that would have a devastating impact on people with disabilities’ access to Medicaid.

If the bill passes in the House, the fight will continue in the Senate.
