NCIL Mourns the Loss of Becky Ogle

NCIL is saddened to learn of the passing of Becky Ogle, a lifelong advocate, total badass, and disability rights icon.

Becky’s unwavering determination was instrumental in the efforts to pass the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). She served as Executive Director of the Presidential Task Force on Employment of Adults with Disabilities and helped lay the groundwork for what became the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy.

Throughout her life, Becky championed full integration of people with disabilities everywhere – employment, civic engagement, and public leadership. She worked tirelessly to increase political participation.

Colleagues remember her as a force of nature: passionate, fearless, and deeply committed.

Becky was a fixture at NCIL’s annual March & Rally in Washington, DC. Her presence strengthened the Independent Living Movement and advanced us as individuals and as a community.

We will remember Becky for her skill at inspiring action and encouraging each of us to be our most courageous selves. She leaves behind a lasting example for us to follow. She will deeply missed.
