Independence Now, a Center for Independent Living (CIL), is a nonprofit organization created by and for people with disabilities. Independence Now is a resource and advocacy center that promotes independent living and equal access for people with all types of disabilities.
This position is part of Maryland’s Money Follows the Person (MFP) Program that supports people to move out of nursing facilities and into the community. It is imperative in this position to have a strong belief in the independent living philosophy along with life experience with disability and community living. The activities of a Peer Support Counselor include building relationships with nursing facility staff and residents, to act as a resource on local services and supports and the transition process.
