The IL-NET National Training & Technical Assistance (T&TA) Center operated by ILRU in collaboration with NCIL, APRIL, and the University of Montana Rural Institute and RTC: Rural, supports CILs and SILCs in building capacity to run strong, effective organizations.

Workshop Description:

Care deserts are areas with limited or no access to healthcare and personal assistant services. Join us for a workshop designed to equip Center for Independent Living (CIL) staff with the knowledge and strategies to support self-direction in rural communities, particularly in care deserts.

This workshop will provide valuable tools and strategies to enhance your role in supporting individuals with disabilities in rural areas, ensuring they have the resources and knowledge to achieve greater independence and self-direction.

In this training, attendees will be able to:

  • Define self-direction and care deserts
  • Identify innovative strategies to leverage existing resources at CILs to support self-direction and other transition-related needs in rural communities
  • Educate and inform CIL staff on how to support consumers with accessing and utilizing self-direction as part of their transition efforts

Presenters:

  • Erica Andres, Senior Consultant at Applied Self-Direction
  • Jennifer Kucera, Healthcare Outreach Coordinator at The Center for Disability Employment, and Chair of the Ohio Olmstead Task Force

Target Audience:

  • Staff, program managers, and executive directors of Centers for Independent Living (CILs).

Registration Fee: This event is free-of-charge.
