Register online or reach out to [email protected] for more information.

The National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) is hosting a listening session to gather feedback and input from emerging disability advocates and leaders! We want to hear what is important to YOU and help us envision what the future of the Independent Living Movement and disability community will look like.

Examples of topics to share feedback on:

  • Format and topics for education and training
  • Peer support and mentoring
  • Types of leadership development activities
  • Disability and advocacy issues that are important to you

NCIL will use this information to help inform our emerging leader programs and initiatives that will support the growth and development of the next generation of Independent Living Leaders.

Who are “emerging disability advocates and leaders”?

Youth, young adults, transition-aged youth do not accurately represent the diversity of ages and experiences when targeting “youth” initiatives.

For this listening session, we are inviting people with disabilities in the general age group of 14-40 years old. People who are new to Independent Living or work with youth at a CIL or SILC are also welcomed.

This listening session will focus on the emerging leader’s voice. We kindly ask if you do not identify with this group to participate in a listen-only role.

If you need any accommodations, please reach out to Mary-Kate Wells at [email protected]. ASL and CART will be provided.

This listening session is supported by The Grassroots Project: Supporting Disability Advocacy Nationally, which is funded by the Administration for Community Living and will be administered by the Human Services Research Institute. HSRI will work in partnership with national disability organizations through a National Advocacy and Action Coalition comprised of national organizations for the ACL funded DD, IL, TBI, and PRC programs.
