Independent Living Program Capacity Listening Sessions

NCIL will be hosting two listening sessions to hear from Centers for Independent Living (CILs) and State Independent Living Councils (SILCs) about systemic issues affecting the Independent Living Program. The information collected from these meetings will help inform NCIL’s advocacy and public policy focus aimed at improving and expanding the capacity of the IL program.

We want to hear from you! Below are some topics we are looking to gather information on:

  • Relationship between CILs and SILCs
  • Relationships with Designated State Entities (DSE)
  • Relationship and communication with the Administration for Community Living (ACL)
  • Timeliness of payments/reporting
  • Access to technical assistance/resources
  • SPIL process – how is it going?

The Listening Sessions will be held on the following dates:

CIL Listening Session: May 15, 2024; 3:00-5:00 p.m. Eastern

Register: https://bit.ly/3WCsKTg

SILC Listening Session: May 21, 2024; 3:00-5:00 p.m. Eastern

Register: https://bit.ly/3UtjAWB

Due to the focus and nature of the event, these listening sessions will only be open to staff of CILs and SILCs. Please note these sessions are not open to the boards of CILs and SILCs or representatives of other community organizations. These sessions will not be recorded.

We ask that CIL staff only attend the CIL listening session and SILC staff only attend the SILC listening session.

If you have any questions or if you need any accommodations, please contact NCIL’s Director of Advocacy and Public Policy Jessica Podesva at [email protected]. ASL and CART will be provided.
